Pro Tours Packed with Individual Stories

There are so many story lines going on right now in golf.  Tiger is back from an 8 month injury and rehab. Michelle Wie is back playing where she should be, on the LPGA tour.  Phil Michelson is back but we don’t know for how long.  John Daly is back from a six month suspension from the PGA tour.  Brandt Snedeker is back from an injury and dismal start for the 2009 season.

Who ever questioned Tigers return?   I know I never did.  It was just a matter of time.  But now he is hitting his driver straighter than he has in a long time.  He only missed 4 fairways at The Memorial Golf Tournament and the last day he hit all 14 fairways.  I always said that if he hit the ball in the fairway he is going to be hard to beat.  Can you believe everyone was questioning whether Hank Haney was going to stay Tiger’s swing coach?  I don’t think he has anything to worry about.

Michelle Wie is back in the news and in a good way.  She did not win the McDonald’s LPGA Championship, but when you have a hole-in-one and an eagle during the same tournament some things are going right.  Now she has to get rid of the big numbers.  As for me, I am glad she is playing on the LPGA tour.  The LPGA needs her.  Go play a few men’s events if you want, but put your focus on the LPGA and winning.

As for Phil, he has always focused on family first and golf second.  With Amy being diagnosed with breast cancer, Phil played in Memphis last   week and will play the U.S. Open this week.  He will then take some time off to be with his family. His return is unknown but our thoughts are prayers are with him and his family.  We will enjoy seeing him return to Bethpage Black and New York City.

John Daly is back after a six month PGA Tour suspension.  If there is drama you will see Big John.  But after lap band surgery and a new clothing endorsement he is back to playing on the PGA Tour.  He picked Memphis for his return and made the cut.  I want John to do well.  The tour needs him as the fans flock to see him hit the ball.  But who knows?  Only time will tell.

We all watched the 2008 Masters and were in hopes that Brandt Snedeker would pull off that win.  Since then we have seen Brandt struggle.  He has had some nagging injuries and was rusty in Memphis this past week.  But I have a feeling in my gut that Brandt will come back and play well.  As most of you know, Brandt grew up playing golf here in Nashville.  I gave him and his brother Haymes (Big Break X winner) golf lessons when they were just starting to learn the game.
